Happy Summer

Happy Summer, everyone! We hope you are enjoying watching Harry Kane in the World Cup as much as Dean (if that is humanly possible). It is not only the England team who has a strong squad this summer; we have also added to our winning team. We would like to officially welcome Susan on board. Those of you regularly submitting time sheets will know that Susan has now taken over our finance department as Head of Payroll and Accounts. She comes to us from a career in finance and will be your point of contact for all pay related queries.

The second addition to the office is Liam Hogg. You may have heard on the grapevine that Liam supports Middlesbrough, despite this please make him feel welcome. Liam is just starting off on his journey to understand the hectic world of hospitality recruitment. We look forward to teaching him the modern, proactive approach to the industry that embodies the Adkins and Cheurfi brand. Before we know it he will be fully fledged consultant. Good luck Liam.

To accommodate the the growing team we have moved office (yes, that’s right, again). You can now find us in F1 at the BIC in our new fancy pants office space overlooking the car park. We now have an area to conduct health and safety training on site and space for confidential chats. If you are passing by in sunny Sunderland be sure to pop in and say hello.

Thank you as usual for all your hard work this summer and come on England!

Dean, Melika, Christine, Susan and Liam

North East Chef of the Year 2018

NECTA North East Chef of the Year

A great day was had by all at the Hilton, Newcastle at the beginning of May where we celebrated the top culinary talent of the North East. Congratulations to the winner, Chef of the Year Phil Pringle who did himself proud and knocked the judges off their feet with a trio of pork main to die for. Phil, Curriculum Leader in Hospitality and Tourism at Newcastle College was up against some seasoned industry professionals from destination dining properties like Peace and Loaf but made the biggest impression on the day. Well done to Phil and we wish him all the best for the future.

Other highlights included the NECTA Sugercraft area which attracted entries from around the country and was really interesting to see. The atmosphere was great and we were particularly impressed by the team competition. Standards, as ever were sky high. It was great to get out of the office and reconnect with the guys in the kitchen, which is what we are all about at the end of the day. A massive thank you for everyone who stopped by to say hello to us on our stall. For those of you who missed out on an Adkins Cheurfi cupcake and glass of bubbles…see you next year.

It took a while to sink in but we have gotten over our hangover and we think some thank yous are in order. Your creativity, resilience and professionalism is the reason we have gained such recognition. Thank you to our team of amazing chefs who show up to work (even when everyone else is snowed in). Christine would like to thank all the front of house staff who have pulled off some fantastic events over the past twelve months. We are grateful to our kitchen porters who have kept some of the busiest kitchens ticking over, our night porters and our general catering assistants.

So, it’s official. We are the best new business in South Tyneside, Sunderland and Durham. We look forward to the big one now. We will be attending the final for the entire region at the end of April and will let you know if there is another celebration in order. Here’s to New Beginnings

As we close the door on the revelry of the New Year we find ourselves in a strong position. January is a great time to take a step back and take stock of the bigger picture. We use this time, not to reflect on the successes of 2017 but to drive the business forward to ensure an even bigger and better year ahead. Dean is now taking our innovative approach to recruitment on the road.  We are casting our net further afield into the Yorkshire countryside. The Dales are full of hidden gastronomic jewels. Watch this space for some fantastic opportunities to be had for fine dining chefs willing to travel or live in.

As far as contract catering work is concerned, Christine is the lady to speak to. Our care and educational division is now gathering pace and we are pushing on in sites around Newcastle, Sunderland and Durham in the coming months. On the other hand, if you are seeking a new challenge in a permanent role then Melika is the woman in the know. Join our perm database of quality candidates to receive emails of all the latest and greatest jobs around.

Happy New Year! Wish us luck as we continue our progress through a dry(ish) January.

We Wish You a Merry Christmas

As the snow falls outside, it is hard to believe that yet another year has gone by. 2017 has been a truly astounding year of hard work and just rewards at Adkins and Cheurfi. Our team of relief chefs have exceeded the expectations of even the most demanding kitchens. We end the year with the reputation for the best chefs in the North East and would like to offer our sincere thanks to all our chefs. The Front of House side of the business has also grown exponentially. We have staffed some of the biggest events in the region with our immaculate, highly trained and hard working waiting and bar staff. Thank you to all our front of house superstars, have a mulled wine on us!

We look forward to expanding further in 2018 with the launch of our contract catering, educational and care division. We are always on the look out for quality staff. If you are interested in getting involved then get in touch in January. On that note, the demand for live-in chefs will take off mid-March so be sure to register your interest after Christmas.

We ho ho hope you will join us for another roller coaster year in 2018. Wishing you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Dean, Melika and Christine xxx

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween from the hospitality wizards

It’s that time of year when the dark nights creep in and the temperature drops. That doesn’t stop us from getting out and about. We like to keep our finger on the pulse at Adkins and Cheurfi and we attended Young Chef of the Year at St James Park this month. The talent on show this year was phenomenal and a massive congratulations to Elliott Teasdale from Consett who took home the crown for 2017. It was fun to catch up with some old faces and a great day was had by all.

We would like to invite any of our staff who need a helping hand completing their Food and Hygiene certificates to brave the cold and step in to our nice warm office. We will be more than happy to make you a cup of tea and go through the required modules with you. It’s totally free.

In other news things have really taken off on the Front of House side of the business. We have thoroughly enjoyed supplying superstar staff for some of Newcastle’s biggest autumn events. We are looking forward to seeing what the festive season brings, with plenty of Christmas events on in the North East this December.

Have a scream this Halloween.
