Autumn is in the Air

Autumn is in the air, the dark night’s are back and Halloween is just around the corner….

We would like to extend our thanks to all our chefs, front of house and kitchen assistants for their hard work during what was a record breaking summer. We received excellent feedback from clients and supplied our furthest client to date, in the French Alps! If anyone would be interested in taking work during the ski season this winter then give the office a call.

Well we can’t actually believe it but the time has come to say a big goodbye to Melika as she leaves the office this Friday to begin her maternity leave. Melika is expecting a baby girl at the beginning of November and we all wish her good luck. While Melika relaxes at home with her new born (jokes) Dean will be managing all her clients. Please consider him your point of contact in this department. Melika expects to return to work in February 2020 but will keep us on our toes with surprise visits to the office throughout the winter.

Unfortunately Melika misses the annual Adkins and Cheufi Pumpkin Carving Competition which will take place on Thursday, 31st October. We know you are all in suspense to see whether Christine will defend her title; check out Facebook on the day to place your vote. Chefs, feel free to show off your knife skills and post examples of your own handiwork in the comments….

Now, as we know you are aware it won’t be long before Christmas arrives. Take this time to think about your Christmas availability and we will try to get the period organised as early as possible. Ashleigh will be sorting out her Christmas and New Year events in the next few weeks and will have some dates for your diary. Liam continues to supply local pub and hotel clients in the area and Christine is the lady to speak to regarding care, education and industrial kitchen work. Let us know if you want work on Christmas Day etc.. so that we can get you the shifts you want with plenty of notice.

That’s all the news we have for now, thanks again for your professionalism and hard work

from everyone at Adkins and Cheurfi Recruitment

Hello Sunshine

We hope you have all been enjoying the warmer weather and thought we would give you some news about how Summer 2019 is shaping up:

Firstly we would like to share some lovely news and congratulate Melika on the announcement that she will be expecting her 1st child with fiance Nick, in November this year. We can all look forward to a mini Melika terrorising the office in the near future, meaning Dean will have one more Cheurfi to answer to….

Following our first mini heatwave of the year… the crazy season for all things hospitality has well and truly arrived. We are proud to be supporting some major new clients with their events and have had great feedback about our chefs, front of house and kitchen porters. Ashleigh continues to work hard with her fantastic team of events staff and the next few months promise to be intense.

Dean and Melika continue to supply the strongest chefs in the North to hotels and restaurants from Scotland down to Yorkshire. If you know a talented chef with a strong work ethic then put them in touch with us and you could receive a referral fee in time for payday.

Liam has been busy with permanent placements aplenty and has grown his network of local clients successfully. If you are interested in temp chef work in Newcastle, Sunderland or Durham then he is your man.

Christine continues to supply chefs and catering assistants in to the care, education and industrial sector. To compliment the catering side of things we now supply cleaning staff to a number of businesses. Demand is increasing week by week and again the coming months look busy.

We have recently partnered with the Foundation of Light and will be raising money for Alzheimer’s.  The Foundation, based at the newly built Beacon of Light offer a range of programs which directly benefit the local community right here on Wearside. Schemes helping people get back in to work, improve their mental and physical health run weekly. We will continue our ongoing support for local efforts raising money for people who suffer from Alzheimer’s and their families. We look forward to keeping you involved with our schedule of fundraising efforts, details to be announced.

We extend our thanks for all your hard work, consistency and professional and look forward to a rewarding summer season. If you have any photos you would like to share of your dishes, your colleagues or any big events you have worked then please email them to christine@adkinscheurfi.co.uk. We would love to have a look!

Christmas Time, Mistletoe and Wine

Christmas News 2018

Not to be cliche or anything but…..where has the year gone? We all knows that time flies when you are having fun and here we are, it’s December again. As we decorate the office and write out the Christmas cards we can look back on another smashing year in the crazy business of hospitality recruitment. There are many highlights for us personally and both MD’s have plenty to say on the matter:

Melika Cheurfi

‘For me one the highlights of 2018 was welcoming Susan, Liam and Ashleigh to the company along with all the fantastic new chefs and front of guys we now have on the team. We started the year in the office as a small team of three and now we have doubled. Liam and Ashleigh are both getting on really well and it is so refreshing to watch them both develop their skills and to get their take on how to drive the business forward. Susan has made a massive difference to how we manage payroll and has developed an excellent relationship with all our guys.

I also want to express how grateful we are for having such a dedicated workforce of talented chefs and front of house professionals all doing a fantastic job day in and day out.  I really look forward to working with everyone in 2019 and expanding our team even further next year, watch this space!’

Dean Adkins

‘For me the best bit was definitely winning Best Newcomer at the North East Business Awards, no doubt about that. We were really shocked and couldn’t believe it when they announced our name as the winners. It felt like all the hard work we all put in day in, day out had been recognised and we had a brilliant night. Other than that I’ve got to say I was pretty proud seeing our branding advertised at St. James Park on Match of the Day, that was rather special.’

We have all learned alot throughout 2018 and Liam hit an all time high, when after months of threatening he actually carried out a complete tidy of the office cupboard (with phenomenal results). It stayed tidy for a whole three days and was a massive turning point in his career. In all seriousness Liam has enjoyed going on his client visits with Dean and Melika and learning how it all works. Carlsberg don’t make Trainee Consultants but if they did….

Ashleigh and Christine have been concentrating on growing their individual desks. Ashleigh has enjoyed her early successes with some major events clients and is enjoying the fresh air up North. Christine is steadily building her contract catering network and both girls are looking forward to a manic Christmas.

I think the main thing that has astounded us throughout 2018 is the superhuman effort put in by all our chefs, GA’s, waiting and bar staff. Your commitment, professionalism and consistency has been key to another successful year for everyone and we seriously thank each and every one of you. Alongside our core group of regular temps we have a great new wave of talent out working and we are so proud of our staff it is unbelievable.

Staff Christmas Raffle

On Thursday, 13th December at 10am we go live on Facebook with the staff Christmas Raffle.

Prizes include a luxury spa break, hospitality tickets to see Newcastle V Man Utd, gift vouchers and more, so make sure you tune in to see if you have won. If you are passing through Sunderland in the next few weeks, call in and have a mince pie with us.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas

Autumn News

Autumn News

Where to begin? There is so much going in this Autumn that it is hard to know where to start.

Let’s begin by welcoming Ashleigh Pinder to the team. Ashleigh has extensive experience as a Front of House Consultant down in the Big Smoke and is keen to test her skills in the North East market. She has staffed more major events than you can shake a stick at, from Cheltenham Racecourse to the 02 Arena. She will be out and about meeting clients and candidates alike in the run up to Christmas and you can contact her on 0191 516 6118 or email ashleigh@adkinscheurfi.co.uk.

Ashleigh’s arrival comes at a pivotal time for the business as we enter the final quarter of a record year. As ever we are eternally grateful to all our hard working chefs, GA’s, waiting and bar staff for elevating our reputation among our clients. We are taking the opportunity over the next fortnight to regroup and are working hard in the office to ensure we all enjoy a prosperous Christmas. Dean and Melika continue to handle the hotel and restaurant chef bookings with support from Liam Hogg. Christine is heading up the contract catering, education and care division and Susan Walton is the your point of contact for any payroll queries. Ashleigh will deal exclusively with Front of House.

Dean, Melika and Liam will be attending the NECTA Young Chef of the Year 2018 at the Lancastrian Suite, Federation Brewery on 11th October. This event gets better every year and we look forward to meeting some of the brightest emerging culinary talent the region has to offer. Pop along to say hello and let us know what you are up to!

After Young Chef of the Year we will be holding our own (slightly less prestigious) competition on Facebook. It involves both knife skills and food…that right’s we are holding our Adkins and Cheurfi Pumpkin Carving Competition. Check out our Facebook page in the run up to Halloween to see who, in the office, takes the crown. Then it is over to you to submit your best Halloween inspired creations from carved pumpkin to pumpkin ravioli, we want to see your efforts….with the winner of a spooktacular prize to be announced on All Hallow’s Eve.

Thank you for reading and we look forward to another hectic quarter with your continued support.

Dean and Melika

Happy Birthday to Adkins and Cheurfi

Happy Birthday to Us!!!!

Two years ago we officially launched Adkins and Cheurfi from a tiny office with a phone, a lap top and not much else. It is great to see how far we have come in only 24 months. Dean and Melika would like to personally thank our chefs, waiting staff, bar staff, catering assistants and everybody else for your unwavering support, professionalism and hard work. As you are no doubt aware we continue to grow and we look forward to expanding further into Yorkshire and Scotland in the coming months. We hope to celebrate many more milestones with you guys. Happy Birthday!!!

So what has been happening with us? For those of you who watched the Newcastle v Chelsea game recently at St James Park….did you see anything you recognised? We were thrilled to spot our branding on TV in the closest brush with Premier League Football Adkins is likely to have. Take a look and see for yourself:

As well as new advertising partnership with Newcastle United we have also signed up with Sun FM radio to increase awareness of our business across Tyne and Wear. So next time you are in the car on your way to work and the ad break starts on Sun FM….don’t change the station, listen out for our new jingle and let us know what you think.

In other news Christine returns to the office this week to concentrate on all things contract catering. All schools, care homes, industrial and commercial sites fall under her remit and you can catch her any day except Wednesday if you would like to put your name forward. Don’t let this Indian summer fool you. The kids go back to school this week and it will be Halloween before you can say BOO, we expect to be very busy supplying catering staff in this department.

Dean and Melika, fresh from a jaunt to Thirsk races are working on the temp side of things together over the next few months. Luckily Liam is excelling in the challenging world of hospitality recruitment, give him a call if you would like to refer a good chef for work and earn yourself £25. No doubt we will see more additions to the team in the near future in our larger office.  Speaking of the office, you now have no excuse not to stop by and say hello. With the road works a thing of the past and the opening of the impressive Spire bridge now connecting us to the other side of Sunderland, we are more accessible than ever. Please call in to complete some refresher training, get some more items of uniform or simply have a chat, we love your visits. You can find us in F1 at the Business Innovation Centre, Sunderland.

Well, that concludes our birthday news. Thank you to each and every one of you again for helping us achieve our goals. Long may it continue.

Dean and Melika xxx
