Merry Christmas 2020

Merry Christmas 2020 from the Adkins and Cheurfi Team!

Well another year has flown over and it’s Christmas Day in a few days. Dean, Melika and the entire office team would like to thank all our staff for your cooperation, hard work and patience during what has been a difficult year for everybody. We would also like to thank the clients that remained loyal and understanding during what would have been a very worrying time for them personally. We don’t need to state the obvious but we are looking forward to a brighter 2021 and remain grateful for the great working relationships we have maintained through the biggest challenge the hospitality industry has ever faced.

We hope you all enjoy Christmas with your families and hope that chefs who perhaps don’t usually get to enjoy Christmas Day at home due to work commitments in particular enjoy your day….. hopefully someone else will be cooking the turkey!

We genuinely believe the only way is up from here and we feel confident that when we return to the office January there will be plenty to shout about. In the meantime you can still contact your consultant and Susan via the usual channels.

We love hospitality; it is an exciting, inspiring and most of all a massively resilient industry with the amazing potential to bounce back quickly and we can’t wait to see our beloved clients and favourite haunts thriving again.

Wishing you all the Merriest of Christmases and the Happiest of New Years!

Dean, Melika, Cath, Susan, Liam and Christine 🙂

COVID-19 Company Policy

COVID-19 Company Policy

It is essential that all Adkins and Cheurfi staff read and act upon the following information to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 throughout the workplace. Any staff found to be breaching company guidelines with be subject to further investigation and potential dismissal.

  1. Should you receive an alert that you may have come in to close contact with a person testing positive for Coronavirus then please inform your consultant via telephone immediately. You must forward the alert to the consultant for our records. Your consultant will advise you on what course of action to take from there and liaise with the client if you are on site. If you cannot reach your consultant please call our office number 0191 516 6118 and our team will advise. You will be required to self isolate for a period of two weeks from receipt of the alert but will only be required to undertake a test if you develop symptoms. You are considered safe to return to work after this two week period.
  2. Should you develop symptoms of Corona Virus personally (symptoms can be found here) then please inform your consultant, go home, arrange a test and isolate until you have tested NEGATIVE. Please forward your test results on to your consultant and they will advise you what to do from this point on wards. Any staff members with symptoms of Coronavirus will not be considered safe to return to work without a NEGATIVE test result.
  3. You are required to wear the designated PPE of all sites when representing Adkins and Cheurfi Recruitment. Please bear in mind that this may vary from site to site but masks are MANDATORY on site at all care homes and this is non negotiable due to the vulnerability of the residents on site.
  4. Should you holiday abroad and return from any country on the government quarantine list then this two week quarantine must be observed before being considered eligible for shifts. The quarantine list can be found here.
  5. You may be working in an ongoing booking where you are considered by your hiring manager as one of their ‘bubble.’ Bubbles exist to stop the spread of Corona Virus and if you are part of one you will not be eligible to work at other sites on your days off but will be expected to remain in this workplace ‘bubble,’ until the booking is terminated.
  6. Please ensure you are observing all social distancing and hand washing measures in place, not only in the workplace but in your every day life as irresponsible behaviour outside of work affects the people you work with in this case.
  7. If you have any problems or concerns relating to COVID-19 regarding the site you are working or otherwise then please email christine@adkinscheurfi.co.uk or if it is urgent call the office on 0191 516 6118.
  8. We have implemented a Coronavirus tracker in our office and will be recording all information received to assist with government track and trace endeavours.

Latest News

Latest News from Adkins and Cheurfi

Hello everyone, we thought it was about time we gave you our latest news. Despite the current climate we have got lots of positive things to communicate!

Dean and Melika will be on hand to manage chef bookings as usual and Christine is continuing with education and care recruitment. Demand is booming for school staff at the moment so get in touch to make yourself known if you want to try your hand in the education sector.

We are really proud of the fact that many of our staff have coped really well and have stayed working with us where possible over the last few months. We are in a constant state of flux but the latest government rules regarding PPE and contact tracing are important for us all to note. For example, it is now mandatory for a chef in a care home to wear a mask on shift – if you have any questions about PPE or what may be expected of you please email christine@adkinscheurfi.co.uk.

We have this week initiated our own system which enables us to accurately report COVID-19 cases within our workforce. If you have received a government text telling you to self isolate then you must contact us and forward that text on immediately to allow us to mitigate the spread among clients and staff alike. Thank you for your cooperation.

Anyway….we have saved the best piece of news for last. We are overjoyed to welcome Memphis Vibrans to our team. Memphis takes his place alongside the existing feline contingent and will be operating as Head of IT…which is handy because he knows a lot about printers 🙂

We will leave you with a picture of the handsome new IT guy and remember, thank you for all your hard work and commitment as ever and keep up the good work.

Safe to Work

Are you as safe to work as you could possibly be?

This is a quick update for chefs seeking work in the care sector….many of our clients are requiring the agency chefs to be tested within the last 7 days.

We would advise chefs wanting to maximize their chance of employment to take advantage of the testing facilities local to them available from the NHS. Some sites are offering testing for agency staff but you would need to be tested prior to your employment commencing. Show that you are safe to work and get yourself tested regularly.

Please call Christine for further advice on 0191 516 6118 if you are unsure what to do.

A message from Dean and Melika

Adkins & Cheurfi has been going strong since 2016, and the company could not have developed so successfully without the wonderful people that make our business. These people include all our hard-working staff, the consultants, chefs, waiters, baristas, cleaners, catering staff, kitchen porters and every type of team member we have worked with over the last few years. Alongside our team, we could not have built the company without all our fantastic clients and we send them our best wishes through these unprecedented times.

Thankfully Melika and I prepared a business protection plan very early on in case of future issues. It is this planning that will protect the company in the coming months.

However, even best-laid plans have been challenged in the wake of this catastrophic pandemic. The devastation of the last eight weeks is something none of us could ever have envisioned. The destructive impact of something as awful as the Covid-19 pandemic has touched so many people within our business, as well as individuals and families throughout the hospitality and recruitment sector. The impact has been far-reaching through every industry within the North East, UK and the whole world and therefore it is now more important than ever to look after each other. Just like all the NHS, key workers and carers have looked after society, we must do the same.

The government’s job retention scheme has been most welcome and has helped so many millions of people and we are hugely appreciative of that. As a business we thankfully managed to furlough many of our PAYE staff, although unfortunately, some have still missed out, we have still continued to offer work were possible.  Many of our self-employed staff are currently submitting their own HMRC claims for grants as well and we wish them all the best with this. If anyone has any questions surrounding any of this, please feel free to call the office anytime.

As we begin to make our way out of lockdown, we will start to open the office again. Although this is very early days, we expect to have at least one member of the team in branch from the first week of June and every precaution will be taken to ensure safety is paramount.

The unknown is what is most challenging for our immediate future. I see a lot of rumours and content online about what will happen, but we must all remember, no one truly knows. The most we can do as a business and as individuals is to plan for the worst and hope for the best.

The key now is we must all have patience; the economy may have slumped, but the planet is recovering. We may not have the wealth that we had, but we are healthier. We were consumed by our workload, but now we are consumed with spending time with our families.

And on behalf of everyone at Adkins & Cheurfi, we look forward to speaking with you all and getting back to work very soon

Dean and Melika

Latest Update COVID-19

You may be aware that the government made further announcements to clarify the state of play for PAYE workers this morning. Whilst it is good that we have an update on the situation, the information is still unclear on exactly how pay will work out for workers on zero hour contracts. We would advise that anybody in need of urgent funds should apply for Universal Credit.

We are working together to get all the details ironed out so we can give you a clearer picture on Monday 30th March and advise you of what exactly you need to do. All self employed workers should follow government guidelines on the HMRC website to make their own personal claims.

In the meantime if you do need somebody to chat to then do not hesitate to call your usual consultant. We will be happy to give you all the help we can in this worrying time.

We would also like to take the opportunity to thank our chefs and general assistants working at care homes and other vital locations across the region. You are doing an important job and everybody appreciates your hard work!

Dean, Melika, Christine, Liam and Ashleigh

Important Information for the Adkins Cheurfi Team

So, we’ve made it through the winter months and it won’t be long before we say hello to lighter nights and the occasional ray of sunshine…. We have come to the final third of a busy first quarter and we thank you as ever for your hard work and professionalism. Please read the following important information to keep yourself in the loop of all the latest developments and advice from us to you:

HOLIDAY PAY

From 1st April 2020 our holiday year is changing. Instead of the current January-December holiday year we will be changing to an April-March holiday year. This should help with ensuring you all take your holidays properly throughout the year. Please remember holiday pay is not a method of topping up your weekly wage but is to be used when you are on holiday from work. If you are working then that does not constitute a holiday period. Consultants are not responsible for ensuring you get your holiday pay. Please email susan@adkinscheurfi.co.uk with all holiday pay requests. Bear in mind that holiday pay requests must be received a full week in advance to ensure they are processed with payroll. Thank you for your cooperation on this matter and if you have any queries call the office on 0191 516 6118 to chat with us.

PERMANENT VACANCIES

Over the last few months we have placed many of our team in permanent roles. If you are working as a temp at a business and you think you might like a permanent job there then let us know! We can negotiate a better salary on your behalf and advise you on the going rate for your skills in today’s market. If you have been approached by the client but you are unsure what to do about it then give us a call and we can have that conversation.

LIVE IN CHEFS

We are currently expanding our remit further afield and seeking live in chefs for a number of properties across Scotland and the Lake District. If you know a reliable, experienced chef who would like some live in work for the upcoming summer season then please put them in touch with Christine or Melika.

COMPLIANCE

We are committed to investing in the ongoing training of all our staff. We are continuously auditing our staff compliance to ensure we provide a safe and effective workforce. If you have been contacted by your consultant to complete your Food Safety and Allergen training then please respond and complete at your earliest convenience to avoid losing bookings. Thank you for helping keeping yourselves and our clients safe and well.

CORONA VIRUS

As we are sure you are all aware the UK Chief Medical Officers have now raised the status of risk posed by Corona Virus from low to moderate. It is the responsibility of all of us to prevent and contain it’s spread and as an Adkins and Cheurfi employee you must call the office and declare if you have returned from any of the following countries in the last 14 days: China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Korea, Iran, Italy, Myanmar or Vietnam. Symptoms of Corona Virus are similar to those of the flu and if you think you may be at risk of having contracted the virus call 111 immediately, avoid human contact, stay indoors and do not go to your GP or pharmacy. Call 111 and await NHS advise. Further information can be found on the government website.

Thanks again for your hard work and cooperation from the Adkins Cheurfi office team 🙂

Health and Safety Training

As part of our ongoing commitment to investing in our staff we offer free health and safety training to all our workers. During February we will be auditing our files to ensure that we continue to to provide the most compliant, qualified staff to our clients. We make every effort to match the right candidate to the right client and health and safety in the workplace is an important consideration.

We can offer the following modules free of charge:

  • Food Safety Level 2
  • Food Allergens
  • Health and Safety Level 2

Once completed, the certificates are yours to keep on file and remain valid for three years. Please remember that all chefs and any staff that handle food should possess Food Safety Level 2 and Food Allergens certificates as the bare minimum. We would appreciate your co operation in helping us keeping you compliant and up to date with current health and safety legislation. We will be sending access codes out this week to any staff who are missing certificates. You can then access our online training provider and complete the modules from home. Please keep an eye on your email inboxes and if you have any queries please email christine@adkinscheurfi.co.uk or call the office on 0191 516 6118.

Alternatively we are happy to help you complete this necessary training and will continue to run sessions in the office every Wednesday 10am-12pm. If you would like to book on to one of the sessions please call us and we will be happy to oblige.

Charity Hike for Foundation of Light

We are delighted to announce that Dean, Liam, Christine and Ashleigh are getting their walking shoes on to tackle the Hambleton Hobble….all in the name of a good cause.

As you know we have partnered with the Foundation of Light over the last twelve months to raise money for their charitable efforts which directly benefit the Wearside community. The Hambleton Hobble is a gruelling 30 mile trek around North Yorkshire. We will be setting off to complete the trail at 7am Wednesday 25th March come wind rain or shine! We would be delighted with any sponsorship donations to speed us on our way, no matter how big or small.

We will keep you updated on our preparations and will send you friendly reminders to sponsor us over the coming weeks!

Thank you in advance for your generosity

The Adkins Cheurfi team 🙂
